Why Should Everyone Care About Easter?
Even 2000 + years later
Why Does Easter Still Matter?
When I watch people arrive on Easter Morning for Worship, whether it’s for the Sunrise service or for our mid-morning festival worship, the same question comes to mind: “What brought you here today?” Some I know came out of deep faith, they can’t imagine not celebrating the Resurrection of Christ. Some have come because it’s a tradition, Christmas and Easter - They never miss. And some have come because Grandma said, “You’re coming, and that’s final.” I like to call those the hostages in the room. God can work with all of that, and the question still hangs in the air: Why should I even care about Easter?
Easter is not just a famous true story. It’s not a seasonal ritual and a chance to load up on chocolate and a huge Ham dinner with family. It’s not even primarily about remembering something that happened long ago.
Easter is without a doubt God’s declaration to you that death does not get the last word.
When Jesus stepped out of the tomb, He wasn’t just proving a point. He was opening a door—your door.
A door out of guilt, no matter how long you have been carrying it.
A door out of fear, and the need to face it alone.
A door out of loneliness.
A door out of hurt.
A door out of the quiet ache that wonders if your life really matters.
A door out of the grave itself.
Scripture says, “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19). That’s personal. That’s Jesus looking you in the eye and saying, “My resurrection is for you.”
Easter means:
Your sins are actually forgiven, not theoretically, not conditionally, but fully.
Your suffering is not wasted, because the risen Christ walks with you through every valley.
Your death is not the end, because Jesus has already gone ahead of you and broken it open from the inside.
Your life has a purpose because the One who conquered the grave now calls you His own.
So why should I care about Easter?
Because Easter is the moment God rewrote your story and mine.
Because Easter is the promise that whatever is broken in you is not beyond His repair.
Because however far you feel you are removed from a relationship with God, he is standing right beside you.
Because Easter shows that God is Lord even over Death – your Death.
Because Easter is the victory that changes everything about your past, your present, and your forever.
I would love to hear your thoughts about why easter matters to you!
